28 minJust Talkin’ Sh!t
Randy on manure spreaders, with a side-by-side of a side slinger against a rear slinger. A dealer dropped a Knight 140 Pro Push off the evening before and asked them to try it. What actually wins him over is a design detail you would never think to look for: the gears and chains run in an oil bath in the bottom of the pan, so everything stays soaked and lubricated. Whether it earns the trade is left open.

16 minFilling the Silage Bunker
August 29th. Sam pulls out of the field with a full load and Ginny follows him back to watch it blown into the bunker, while Gerard’s son Roy swings in for the next wagon. The real story is the roll call of iron it takes: a 686 on the blower, a 656 unloading, the 1456 packing, and 7120s both hauling and on the chopper. It works every year for one reason. “As long as the cheap labor keeps showing up.”
21 minChopping
August 29th at Shner’s, opening the south end of the field with the MP230 and its kernel processor, two rolls that crack every kernel on the way through. The lesson of the day is Gerard’s, delivered to whoever is running the head: kick it in at an idle, slowly. “You can’t just throw it in real fast, you’ll shear the pins.” And the wagon with the flat tire is back.
